Five-year-old boy heroically saves mum having a seizure

A young boy is being praised for helping save his mother’s life by calling Triple-0 as she suffered from a severe seizure.

Last year, Zoe Bell, a mother-of-three from New South Wales, was home alone with her three children, Mason, then five, two-year-old Harlow and her newborn son Koa, when she fell to the floor and began to bleed from her ears.

While caring for his siblings, Mason ran to the phone and called for help, pleading with the Triple-0 operator to send an ambulance immediately.

In a roughly nine-minute call, the young boy explained his mum was unresponsive and read out loud their address from Zoe’s driver’s licence.

When asked if he could go next door and ask neighbours for help, Mason adorably responded that “he didn’t want to get kidnapped”.

Moments later, his father, Jacob Bell, returned from the shops – just as Zoe began to have a second seizure.

“She started seizing again as soon as I walked in the door,” Mr Bell told Yahoo News Australia.

“They vary and can last between two minutes or 20 minutes long, it depends on the situation – they were particularly severe that time.”

Zoe, who began suffering from seizures after a bad car accident in 2017, said she’s proud Mason remembered what she had taught him to do in such an emergency.

“He’s very clever. We’re just unbelievably proud of how mature he can be and how well he’s able to get across information,” she said.

“He was able to look after his siblings and not panic, especially seeing his mum like that.”

NSW Ambulance Commissioner Dr Dominic Morgan told Yahoo News Australia the entire Bell family showed “courage and bravery”.

“For a child to pick up the phone and call Triple-0 while dealing with the stress and pressure of a medical emergency demonstrates maturity and bravery beyond words, “ Dr Morgan said.
