Five-day-old baby boy found abandoned in a plastic bag

A baby boy has been found abandoned in a plastic bag on a street in Mexico.

The five-day-old infant was found by residents in the Torres de Potrero neighbourhood of Mexico City after being left on the side of a road near the mayor's office.

It is not known who is responsible for abandoning the child and how long he had been left there.

The photos show the boy swaddled in blankets while being held by police officers and checked by a physician.

The identities of the people who found him are unknown but it was reported they fed and nursed him while waiting for police to arrive and take the child.

It is not the first time infants have been abandoned in this manner in Mexico.

In 2018, a baby was found in a plastic bag in the Iztapalapa district of Mexico City just hours after being born.

In this case, the baby was discovered by a passer-by who saw something moving in the bag and called paramedics after realising it was a baby.

Now, the police are investigating the incident and have transferred the infant to the Children's Hospital of Coyoacan for an evaluation.
