Emaciated dog whose injuries brought RSPCA staff to tears finds new home

An emaciated dog whose condition brought RSPCA inspectors to tears has found a new home.

Bonnie was “just skin and bone” when she was seized by inspectors and brought into RSPCA’s shelter at Mackay in North Queensland.

“She was in a terrible state, starving and sick,” RSPCA Queensland wrote on Facebook.

“Immediately checked by a vet, she was not only emaciated with a terrible skin condition due to a flea infestation. It was also found that she had heartworm, hookworm and giardia.”

Vets treated Bonnie straight away but despite a “careful feeding plan” the pooch was not gaining enough weight.

“It was time to pull out all the stops and enlist the help of our foster carers,” RSPCA Queensland wrote.

“The doctor’s orders were quality rest, dedicated love and attention.”

Bonnie’s recovery took months but after her rescue and rehab she made a full recovery.

“It was only a matter of days before she had found her new forever family,” RSPCA Queensland wrote.

Facebook users were amazed by the change seen in Bonnie.

“What an amazing transformation,” one woman wrote.

Another commented on a later photo of the pooch receiving some pats.

“That's exactly what doggie happiness looks like,” she wrote.

Others thanked the RSPCA for giving Bonnie a second chance.

“Heartbreaking and heartwarming to read the story of Bonnie,” one woman wrote.

“Incredible work by RSPCA.”
