Celebratory crowds have been filmed booing President Donald Trump as he returned to the White House after learning of his defeat to Democrat Joe Biden.
After learning of Biden’s win on Saturday (local time), thousands of his supporters stormed Black Lives Matter Plaza, just blocks from the White House, to celebrate.
President-elect Biden and his Vice President-elect Kamala Harris won Pennsylvania, romping past the 270 electoral votes needed to remove Trump from office.
Trump is understood to have learnt of his loss while playing golf.
Photos showed him looking tense while sitting in a golf cart or standing on the Trump National Golf Course with a small group of people.
He was wearing a white cap with his tagline, “Make America Great Again”.
While leaving the golf course, he was met with supporters waving flags in support.
However, it was a very different scene when he returned to the White House and joyous crowds chanted “loser, loser, loser” and jeered at Trump as he looked out of his car window.
Others could be heard booing the President’s motorcade while people next to them raised their middle fingers in his direction.
It has been reported that Trump can hear the noise from Biden supporters, who have taken to blaring YMCA - the song Trump closed out his recent rallies with, outside of the White House.
Images of Trump were shared on Twitter, with some people saying he looked 'sad' and ‘teary eyed’ after learning of his loss.
“Trump is teary-eyed as he arrives back to the White House, listening to celebrations of his utter defeat,” one man wrote.
“This maybe my favourite image of the day. Trump returning to the White House after golfing to encounter a huge crowd celebrating his defeat,” comedian Dave Foley tweeted alongside an image of Trump on the phone while looking at the crowds out of his car window.
“The look of defeat as he returned from golfing. He knows he’s lost, despite his objections. Congrats America!” a woman said on Twitter.
“Why so sad?” another man posted.
“This is what a loser looks like,” someone else chimed in.
“Awww poor Donald lost the electoral college AND the popular vote, he looks so sad,” a man Tweeted.
Another man said “seeing all these sad pictures of Donald Trump is cracking me up.”
The President has so far refused to concede to Biden and is promising legal challenges.
He is the first president to lose reelection since George H.W. Bush in 1992.
