Just two weeks before the sudden death of Aussie cricket legend Dean Jones, his daughter Phoebe had posted on social media about how much she missed him and couldn’t wait for him to get home.

Jones died on Thursday after suffering a heart attack in Mumbai, where he was working for Star Sports as a commentator for the Indian Premier League.

Two weeks ago when he left for India, daughter Phoebe took to social media to post a photo of her dad during his illustrious cricket career, walking back to the pavilion while she patiently waited for him.

“This is me waiting for @profdeano to come home and he’s only just left!!” Phoebe wrote.

“Happy Father’s Day to the most dedicated and generous man I know. I love you!”

Jones leaves behind wife Jane and daughters Isabella and Phoebe.

Isabella, who appears under the name Augusta on Instagram, expressed her heartbreak on Thursday night after the tragic news.

“I cannot believe I am writing this. My heart is broken, My Dad. My Hero. The sweetest and most caring person you could ever meet,” she wrote.

“If only you could see now how many lives you touched. If only you could see now how loved you were.

“You held my hand through the toughest times this year, how will I do this without you?

“The heavens have opened their gates for another angel. Wait for me dad. Everything I do is for you. I love you Dad.”

Isabella had recently posted a photo with her parents and sister, expressing her gratitude for such a wonderful family.

“As this strange year 2020 continues on, it has made me so grateful for the beautiful family that I have,” she wrote.

“This year has shown me how important it is to hold on to the things that truly matter — above all else.”

Dean Jones’ death shocks cricket world

Australian national team coach Justin Langer has led a chorus of tributes for Jones.

Jones suffered the serious heart attack in his Mumbai hotel on Thursday, less than 24 hours after commentating on the Indian Premier League.

It is believed fellow Aussie great and commentator Brett Lee performed CPR on Jones but he could not be revived.

Jones had touched so many across the sport, be it as a teammate, opponent, commentator or in a coaching role with Afghanistan and in the Pakistan Super League.

“Deano was a true legend of Australian sport and world cricket, one of the great players and personalities in a golden time for the game,” Langer said on Thursday night.

“His role in the team's World Cup win in 1987 and the 1989 Ashes under AB (Allan Border) were a huge turning point for Australian cricket.

“We can only hope to make Australians as proud of our team as they were of Deano, he will be missed by the game and millions of people around the world.

“Our love to (his wife) Jane and the girls.”

Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, David Warner and Steve Smith were among others to post their tributes.

“Absolutely heartbreaking news about Dean Jones passing away,” Tendulkar tweeted.

“A wonderful soul taken away too soon. Had the opportunity to play against him during my first tour of Australia.

“May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to his loved ones.”
