Dashcam catches Aussie driver risk $660 fine with dirty deed
When you gotta go, you gotta go.
A Sydney man has apparently been caught red-handed in a rather vulnerable moment, captured on dashcam in a dirty deed – which he thought he got away with.
Pulling up on the side of the street in the inner city suburb of Redfern, the man exits the vehicle and scans the street before looking at his phone. He nervously walks around the front of the car, again looking around as he walks back to the driver's side door. He opens it, but doesn't get in.
The open door is simply to create a bit of privacy.
He then squats down between the open door and the driver's seat and defecates on the road. It doesn't take long.
He quickly pulls his shorts up, before hoping back into the car and speeding away.
From the famed poo jogger who was exposed as a top Brisbane executive, to the female poo jogger who terrorised Sydney's celebrity PR agent Roxy Jacenko, Australia loves a bog bandit. Whether it's playgrounds in WA or community gardens in Melbourne, there has been a long list of people making the headlines for their public bowel movements.
And now, it seems, we maybe have another one to add to the annals.
The latest incident was posted to a Sydney subreddit over the weekend, with the poster claiming it was actually captured back in 2020.
"Was with a work mate in his car while we ate some food," he wrote. "Guy speeds in and pulls up in front of us, paces a round for a bit. Then chucks a s**t beside his car".
"Funnily enough ... this happened in 2020 during the great toilet paper shortage/first covid lockdown," he added in the comments. The footage has been on his phone ever since with the poster telling Yahoo News Australia he was uploading other dashcam clips relating to a hit-and-run he was involved in since the police investigation had run its course, when he also decided to post the more unsavoury footage.
What is the potential punishment for pooing in the street?
Such is the fascination with the act, Criminal Defence Lawyers Australia has done a deep dive into the psychological drive behind pooing in public – whether it be rage, anxiety, a desire to send a message, drunkenness or illness.
While this latest anonymous culprit looks like he was simply left with few good options, he still risked a hefty fine.
In NSW, defecating in the street would come under offensive conduct legislation and carries a maximum penalty of thee months imprisonment and/or $660 fine if it is dealt with by a Magistrate in the Local Court.
