Dad's haunting FaceTime moments before freak accident

Jesse Maxwell also sent his wife a touching text just hours before he died.

A woman has shared a devastating photo of her husband Facetiming their daughter just moments before he died in a freak accident.

Jesse Maxwell, a lineworker, died on January 13 after a tree branch hit him while he was restoring power to his community during a storm in the US state of Georgia.

His wife Hope said their daughter River, 4, attempted to FaceTime him a number of times to say goodnight before he finally answered.

Following the call, Ms Maxwell shared a screenshot of the FaceTime call on Facebook, along with a sweet message thanking him for his selflessness.

"River isn't used to not having her daddy home for bedtime. She did get to FaceTime him for a few seconds and of course she has to sleep in one of his shirts for bed tonight for they can match," she wrote.

"Thank you for working so hard babe and for being so selfless. We love you!"

In a heartbreaking twist however, Ms Maxwell received a call 20 minutes later with the devastating news her husband had been killed.

Today.com reports Mr Maxwell's death also came just hours after he sent his doting wife a text message that said: "You know I'm going to love you until my soul leaves my body."

A GoFundMe page has since been set up to help support the family through the tough time, with more than $70,000 already raised.

"Jesse, who was just 32 years old, was killed in an accident on the job clearing the damage that was left by multiple tornadoes in Jasper county. He was working to restore power to his community," the GoFundMe page said.

"He leaves behind his wife Hope, son Lucas, 11, and daughters Loryn, 7, Maddy, 6, and River, who is just four.

"This family is heartbroken and needs all the prayers and support we can give them."

In a heartwrenching tribute on Facebook, his wife wrote: "I will love you until my last breath."

"You always told me I was the strongest woman you have ever met and I'm trying my best to be that woman that you need me to be."
