Coles recalls popular $1.40 staple over 'undeclared' ingredient

Coles has issued an urgent recall for two home brand tomato pastes, due to an undeclared allergen.

The recall notice was issued by the supermarket on Tuesday and it concerns Coles Tomato Paste 170g and Coles Tomato Paste 500g, both with a white label.

Both tomato pastes were sold at Coles supermarkets, Coles Local and through Coles Online nationally.

The recall applies to all best before dates that were sold in the last 12 months and were available nationally from July 2021.

"Customers who have a soy allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if they consume the product," the supermarket said in a media statement.

The Coles Tomato Paste in 500g is sold for $1.40, while the 170g tin is 90 cents.
