Secret Santa's act shocks Christmas shopping customers

A secret Santa’s kind act has surprised shoppers trying to pay off their lay-by items at a department store.

The anonymous person contributed close to $11,000 (USD $8,000) to help strangers with their lay-by balances at a Walmart in Mishawaka, in the US state of Indiana, WSBT 22 reports.

And the generous donor’s actions no doubt relieved financial pressure for some families as Christmas draws closer.

Daniel Heningsmith was one of the lucky recipients of the Good Samaritan’s kindness.

He told WSBT 22 that now he can’t stop thinking about how his family can help somebody else’s.

“Your whole mindset shifts to ‘How can I help the next person?’” Mr Heningsmith said.

And this particular donor is not the only one embodying Christmas spirit in this way.

One person is reported to have paid off all the lay-by items at a Walmart store in Vermont in November.

Christmas also came early for hundreds of families in Tennessee after singer Kid Rock covered the remaining balances of their lay-by accounts in a Walmart, spending more than $112,000 in the store.
