An elderly man was allegedly assaulted by an intruder during a violent home invasion.

The man, 75, was sitting on his couch at his Rivervale home in Perth’s inner east when the stranger allegedly broke through the door at 10.45pm on Friday.

He allegedly punched the man in the head before fleeing the house on foot.

The elderly man suffered cuts to his head, as well as some swelling and bruising and was treated at the scene by St John Ambulance paramedics.

Western Australian Police detective Tom Palmer said they were eager to track down and speak to the suspect about the attack

“We have an unknown male who has broken into an elderly gentleman’s address and assaulted him,” he said. “Given that, we would like to speak to this male quite urgently.”

Police are asking members of the public with any information to please come forward, the suspect is described as 190cm tall, 25 to 30 years of age with a medium build and light complexion.
