Missing teen's body found at notorious swimming spot

The body of an 18-year-old woman who went missing at a popular swimming spot, known as Devil’s Pool, in Far North Queensland has been found.

The teen, who has been identified as Madison Tam by Nine News and other media, went missing about 60km south of Cairns at Babinda Boulders. She failed to resurface after swimming between two rocks.

“The body of an 18-year-old woman missing in Far North Queensland has been located,” Queensland Police said on Friday afternoon, adding a report would be prepared for the coroner.

Police also thanked agencies and volunteers who assisted in the search.

Officers were called to Babinda Boulders about 3pm on Monday. Friends of the missing woman informed police of her last known location after they conducted their own searches.

A short time later, police started “a multi-agency land and water search to locate the White Rock woman”.

“We’re really pleased we can return this poor girl’s body and give some closure during this investigation,” Far North police Detective Acting Inspector Jason Smith told the Cairns Post after search teams found Ms Tam’s body.

Ms Tam went missing at Devil's Pool, which is a notoriously dangerous spot where many have died in the past, according to AAP, especially after heavy rain.
