Bus driver 'fatigued' before horror crash kills 7

A horror crash which involved an overloaded minibus rear-ending a truck has left seven people dead and seven injured.

Authorities have since alleged the driver behind the wheel was suffering from severe fatigue, Chinese publication The Paper reported.

There were also 14 people inside the minibus at the time of the crash, however it was legally only permitted to transport seven people at a time.

The crash happened on a highway in China’s Jiangxi province early Tuesday morning and involved migrant workers returning to the city of Ganzhou from Guangdong province, 460km away.

Video shot by a passerby and shared by Chinese news outlets on Twitter-like site Weibo shows the bus’s seats and luggage strewn across the road hours after the crash. The front of the vehicle is crumpled from the collision.

The driver of the minibus is under investigation for illegal modifications to the vehicle, overloading the vehicle and driving with fatigue.

The truck driver is also accused of overloading his vehicle.

The Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security has sent a team of investigators to Ganzhou to oversee an in-depth investigation into the crash.

With Chinese New Year next month, authorities are urging the public to drive carefully and within the law.

Neighbours of the bus driver say he has been involved in several crashes in recent years, Chutian Metropolis Daily reported.
