Bunnings to host huge sausage sizzle to raise money for flood victims

Bunnings will host a national Aussie sausage sizzle fundraiser this Friday to assist those impacted by the New South Wales and Queensland floods.

Customers can pick up a snag or two between 9am and 4pm on March 11 with all funds going to not-for-profit organisation GIVIT’s Storms and Flooding Appeal.

All Bunnings stores throughout Australia will participate in the huge event in an effort to raise funds for the flood-affected residents through GIVIT's national donation platform.

Bunnings Managing Director, Mike Schneider, said the sausage sizzle would be run by staff members.

"As a part of the local communities who have been affected, we want to help," he said.

"Our team members always embrace the opportunity to get behind the BBQ to help out. We are pleased to once again be partnering with GIVIT which is doing an incredible job supporting communities that have been impacted."

Bunnings warehouses impacted by flooding or recent food shortages may not be able to participate in the event, however, staff will work to assist affected communities.

"We know there is a long road ahead, and Bunnings' team members will continue to work alongside impacted communities in the coming weeks and months to offer support and assistance with the recovery and rebuilding process," Mr Schneider said.

A new way to pay

Customers won't have to search for spare change to purchase their $2.50 per sausage sandwich either.

For the first time, customers will be able to pay using a digital payment for their snag and have the option of making an additional donation also.

GIVIT CEO Sarah Tennant encouraged local charities from flood-affected areas to reach out and work directly with the free organisation.

"GIVIT is a free service for charities to ensure the people they're assisting will get exactly what they need," she said.

"We're grateful to Bunnings for supporting our important work in getting people who are impacted by this disaster the essential items they need."

Bunnings has already given $120,000 worth of donations to the recovery effort through staff donations of essential products as well as financial contributions.

This isn't the first time Bunnings and GIVIT have teamed up together. In April 2021, they raised over $100,000 worth of donations for flood-affected communities in NSW.

Local charities and frontline services in need of donated goods and services can register with GIVIT online.
