Bunnings store's $10 gesture to locals for Christmas lights display

The hardware chain left gifts for households who had 'gone all out' with their Christmas light displays this year.

Bunnings has been praised for surprising locals with a "lovely gesture" ahead of Christmas after one woman discovered a sweet surprise on the doorstep of her home.

But she wasn't the only one to receive a gift from the nation's popular hardware store, with hordes of Aussies across the country admitting they also received one.

The South Australian woman was surprised to discover a letter from her local Bunnings at her door. The unexpected note was to thank her for her impressive Christmas light display and also included a Bunnings gift card to the value of $10.

"Look what I had waiting at my doorstep this morning. What a lovely gesture," the woman shared on Facebook on Wednesday alongside a photo of her joyous light display, and another of the kind note.

"Hello neighbour! Wow! Your Christmas lights are amazing!" the letter reads. "We want to thank you for adding a bit of magic to our community this festive season. Here is a little something to show you our appreciation.

"Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Best wishes, the team at Bunnings Gawler."

Bunnings wants to 'spread some joy' with 'surprise' gift

It's understood that Bunnings staff members can nominate houses they see throughout their community, and while individual stores don't have to get involved, it's something they do nationally.

"We know it has been a challenging year for many and we wanted to celebrate those who are spreading some joy in their neighbourhood with a little surprise from their local Bunnings team," Bunnings Director of Store Operations Ben Camire told Yahoo News Australia.

"Brightening someone’s day with a small gesture like this is what our team does best, and we hope this brings a few smiles to people who have gone all out with their decorating this year."

Social media erupts over 'beautiful' gesture

The social media post garnered thousands of reactions with Aussies blown away by the sweet gesture.

"Absolutely precious! This is just beautiful. It’s great to be appreciated," one person said. While others dubbed the move "beautiful" and "thoughtful".

Others revealed they also received a gift voucher from Bunnings. "We got one too. Was a very nice unexpected surprise," said one. "We got one too but it was $20," said another.
