Boy, eight, run over and killed by ute while playing on highway

A young boy has been killed while playing on a South Australia highway.

Eight-year-old Dylan Brady was outside a fast food restaurant on the Port Augusta highway about 7pm on Monday when he was struck by a ute. His young friends watched on in horror.

Devastated friends and relatives are now mourning a young life taken too soon.

“His big sister is in my class but we go to the same school. He was funny, kind he was a great boy,” a girl from the boy’s school said.

Paramedics tried desperately to save him, but there was nothing they could do.

“It’s always sad when someone dies, doesn’t matter how old they are, it’s always sad,” nearby resident Ryan Dawson said.

Flags were flown at half mast at Dylan’s primary school on Tuesday.

“The community’s shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of one of our own,” Principal Linda Ritchie said.

“We are grieving for the loss and our thoughts are with the family.”

School friends have been offered counselling over the incident while some will be interviewed by major crash experts trying to piece together what happened.

The driver of the car was not injured but was understandably shaken.

Police say she is now assisting them with their inquiries.
