Bodycam shows moment Australia's 'most wanted man' Graham Potter is arrested

One of Australia’s most wanted is behind bars after being on the run for more than a decade.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Graham Potter, 64, in 2010 on two charges of conspiracy to murder and drug trafficking charges in Victoria, police said.

It is alleged Potter was involved in conspiracy to murder two people and trafficked 25,000 ecstasy pills. Potter was allegedly hired in 2008 to kill a man at the wedding of the son of Melbourne underworld figure Mick Gatto.

It is further alleged Potter failed to appear in court in 2010. Before this, Potter served 15 years in jail for the 1981 mutilation and murder of NSW woman Kim Barry.

There were reported sightings of Potter at a caravan park in Tully, in Queensland’s Cassowary Coast Region in 2011.

Police found Potter but he managed to escape during a traffic stop. He was known to use disguises, such as wigs and fat suits, and there were several unconfirmed sightings over the years. Police said he also used the aliases Josh Lawson and John Page.

On Monday, police apprehended Potter after he was found in a derelict home in Ravenshoe in Queensland’s Tablelands Region.

Video of the arrest shows Potter in squalid conditions, surrounded by cardboard boxes and animal cages covered in cobwebs.

Potter is seen in shorts and a shirt with no shoes on.

Victoria Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Mick Frewen said Potter’s apprehension “puts to an end” the hunt for a “very high-end fugitive” wanted for “very, very serious” criminal charges.

"While the trail had gone cold, the resolve to locate Graham right across Australia has not wavered,” he said.

Potter will face Mareeba Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday before being extradited to Victoria.
