Australia Post driver's 'stupid' delivery forces woman to search 800-acre outback property

The Aussie woman could not believe her eyes when she found her parcel left 'in a safe spot' under a tree on the huge property.

Australia Post has come under fire from an Aussie woman who cannot fathom why her parcel was left for her in the most bizarre place on her rural property.

Heidi ended up on a scavenger hunt after getting a notification that her parcel was delivered and "left in a safe spot". With it was a picture of her package sitting under a tree, but nothing else.

Finding it "only by sheer luck", Heidi shared her frustration and dismay with the Australia Post driver online.

"Thank you Australia Post. Just when I thought you guys couldn't get any f**king stupider," she said. "Any sensible person, you would think, would probably be able to drive up the driveway to the house and leave it up there," she says.

Three images. Left is of the parcel on the tree stump, middle is of the farm and long dirt driveway, and right is of Heidi with her farm behind her.

Heidi mocked the delivery driver, guessing what they may have been thinking. "I'll just drive in and pick a tree," she said in her video, making fun of the driver's decision making. And hope like f**k that the owner finds it. Thank Christ the owner did find it."

She found the parcel, worth about $100, on a random tree stump on her 800-acre farm.

Australia Post parcels usually collected from store

Heidi explains that because of her location, parcels are usually dropped off at the local store and post office, so she went there first to pick up her delivery, but it was not there. She then checked her Australia Post notification online to see that it was definitely delivered, but not to her home or post office — it was in the bush outside, enjoying a nice view of her property.

The image taken by the delivery driver showed the package sitting under a tree, but didn't give any other information on where Heidi might be able to find it.

Australia Post's delivery policy states that arrangements for deliveries depend on how populated or easy to access an area is, and a spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia after seeing the video they hope to look into this matter further to see why this could have happened.

"Australia Post takes seriously its responsibility to deliver mail and parcels, and the vast majority of items are delivered safely. We’d like to look into this matter further and encourage the customer who posted this video to contact us directly on 13 POST," they said.

Delivery arrangements vary for rural areas

Depending on location and population, some areas do not get deliveries to their doorstep like city residents.

Roadside delivery is to the boundary of the property and is for medium to low population density areas. In this situation letterboxes will either be at the main entrance to the property or all clustered together at the intersection of the street / lane and the main road. If a parcel needs a signature on delivery, roadside delivery policy says that a card will be left and it will be taken to the local post office.
