Adelaide wife writes heartfelt post after husband dies in her arms

An Aussie woman has shared a heartbreaking tribute for her husband who recently died while on their dream trip, which turned into a nightmare.

The Adelaide local's Facebook post about 28-year-old Daniel Heritage has since been taken down.

“Dear Daniel, you were my best friend, love of my life and adventure buddy,” Emma Heritage wrote, The Advertiser reported.

“Thank you for bringing so much joy into my life and helping me realise that I was more capable than I think.

"Thank you for inviting me into your world where anything was possible and each day was an opportunity for a new adventure."

The couple had decided to take time off work for a two-year trip to Canada where they would explore the mountains in Alberta.

The 28-year-old engineer posted on LinkedIn about the decision to travel when they left in March, saying he wanted to "pursue hobbies and passion projects that [he hadn't] previously had the opportunity to".

However the dream trip took a turn for the worst last Wednesday when Mr Heritage died in his wife's arms from a rock climbing accident in the Alberta Rocky Mountains, near Canmore, Adelaide Now reports.

“My heart longs for you and I’d do anything to be slow dancing to our wedding song, joking around together, exploring the world or sitting in silence reading books/movies together," Ms Heritage continued in her Facebook post.

“While I am upset about no longer having the opportunity to grow old together, I feel privileged to have known you," Ms Heritage said.

“You were the best husband I could have ever asked for and whilst I don’t know what the future looks like for me at the moment, I do know that you had a great last few months.

“You were dearly loved by so many people who had just met you and those lucky enough to have known you for many years.

“I love you now and forever. Your wife, Emma.”

Mr Heritage also shared his love of exploring the outdoors with his local community as a scouts leader, which Scouts SA chief commissioner Jan Turbill spoke about.

“He was the absolute embodiment of the Scouts, Ms Turbill said to The Advertiser.

"He lived his life the way all Scouts want to live it. Full of ethics, full of resilience and full of adventure."

Ms Turbill also said it was heart-wrenching that he died while doing what he loved and that she along with the other scout members will be there at the funeral.

Ms Heritage's dad has since been able to make the journey to Canada to emotionally support her and help bring Daniel back home to Adelaide, 9 News reports.

A GoFundMe started by Emma's twin sister Jess has made the dad's journey to fly financially possible, and will also go towards funeral costs.

Since being started, it has raised more than $33,000, way beyond the $10,000 goal.
