Tourist's forceful reaction after being groped in Irish city

An American solo traveller has shared her brave reaction after a frightening sexual assault experience while walking through the Irish capital, Dublin.

Leanna Carr, 26, was travelling solo for the first time on a three-week trip in Europe.

She was walking from her hostel to the bus stop near Aston Quay in Dublin last week when she felt someone grope her from behind.

Anger and adrenalin then took over and she turned around and punched the man in the face, the young traveller told the Irish Independent.

“While walking down the street in Dublin earlier this week, a man grabbed my butt," she wrote on Twitter.

“He proceeded to laugh hysterically and said 'you’re an American, you probably liked it'.

“Apparently traveling solo has made me a better person [because] my first reaction was to punch him in the face.”

“I am never a violent person, and I have never punched anyone before... but I became so angry and had so much adrenaline that my reaction was to punch him. I got him on the cheek bone, hard," she said.

She said the incident has not ruined her opinion of Ireland.

“I was a little shaken and wanted to go home at first. I spent a couple days in Galway and went back to Dublin for another day, and I truly met the most amazing Irish locals who were very welcoming and kind," she said.

She's had over 15,000 likes on her post.

Many were in support of her reaction towards the man with one person writing "I'm so sorry that happened to you, and especially sorry it happened to you in my home town".

"As a fellow solo travler, YAAAAAS GIRL," another person wrote.
