Grandmother reunited with wedding ring lost 40 years ago

A Melbourne grandmother has been reunited with her wedding ring after losing it more than four decades ago.

Rose and Sam Di Pasquale were married in 1962 before immigrating to Australia from Italy and starting a family in Moonee Ponds ten years later.

Their son, Vito, said he recalls his mother losing the beloved ring when he was in primary school in the late 70s or early 80s.

They assumed the gold ring was lost forever and were left in complete shock when plumber Shane McKenzie made an incredible discovery.

He was unblocking the family's drains when he spotted a glimmer of gold.

"The ring had gotten caught on the corkscrew so it must of had a tree root growing through it for how ever many years," he said.

"I was able to return something that, as a married man, i know, it's fairly valuable."

Mrs Di Pasquale has recently been diagnosed with dementia leaving the piece of family history with even more sentimental value.

"She's happy. I'm happy. My son too. All happy," Mr Di Pasquale said.

The couple believe the ring was likely lost down the drain with the mop water in the outdoor sink.
