Teenage girl dies after being electrocuted by charging phone

A teenage girl has died after she was electrocuted by her mobile phone as it was charging.

Luiza Pinheiro, 17, from Brazil, was found lifeless on the floor of her home on Sunday afternoon about 5pm with her phone plugged into a charger next to her, The Sun reports.

It's not known how, but an electric charge destroyed the teen's phone.

Ms Pinheiro was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

A hospital spokesman told the media the girl's grandmother was the one who found her, and it's believed she died from an electrical shock because her phone was charging and had "melted". She had earphones in her ears.

He added the cause of the teen's death is yet to be confirmed, and while it wasn't raining during the time of accident there had been a lightning storm.

Her cause of death is still under investigation. It's not known what type of phone she had been using.
