'Get inside now!': Resident receives panicked call after massive creature spotted lurking at his front door

A far north Queensland man had no idea a huge crocodile was stationed outside his front door until police called him from outside in a panic.

They had been out late patrolling for creepy characters and they found one - but it wasn't human.

The three metre long reptile was loitering on a suburban road in Port Douglas when it was given a move-on notice - but it only moved as far as Clayton Gray's front yard, ending up on his doorstep.

"He's probably out looking for a lady friend late at night.," Sgt Damian Meadows of Queensland Police said.

When Mr Gray arrived home at 1.30am on Saturday morning, he didn't even realise what was waiting for him.

"I heard a rustle and I went to look and I heard my phone ring and it was Sergeant Damian Meadows going 'Clay, get inside now, you're standing next to a croc'."

Next, the croc banged into the neighbour's garage.

It took 45 minutes for police to coax the croc two doors up and along a walkway.

It eventually wandered off into a drain - and that's the last time it was seen.

Rangers were planning to search a nearby lake on Monday night.

"I'm going to have to watch a few of Steve Irwin's videos to get a few pointers on how to wrestle them that's for sure," Sgt Meadows said.
