Shocking video shows pelican walking around with knife through body

WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: A pelican was found wandering around a park in the WA tourist town of Denmark with a knife still embedded in its body on the weekend.

The injured bird was found at the Denmark Rivermouth Caravan Park by Stephanie Downey, who took photographs and video to capture the shocking sight.

Ms Downey told The West Australian that the bird had been wandering around with the embedded knife for three days, but nobody had been able to get close enough to help pull it out.

"As soon as I saw him I just wanted to help him, he looked distressed and I felt helpless to know exactly how to help him," she told Yahoo7.

"Thankfully now it's in the hands of professionals."

Staff from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions are now investigating and RSPCA WA have been alerted to the incident.

If anyone has information on the incident it can be reported to the department's Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055.
