WATCH: Cyclist hit by 4WD at traffic lights - but who is at fault?

A video of a cyclist being struck down while riding through a traffic light crossing has divided viewers over who is to blame for the collision.

The video was shared the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page on Tuesday morning, with the caption "Little red man = No go".

A motorist identified only as Graeme said the the cyclist was luckily did not suffer serious injury, but did not specify where the video was filmed.

"This is what happens when a cyclist uses the pedestrian crossing at traffic lights ignoring the red Do Not Walk symbol,” he wrote.

“The driver of the vehicle that hit the cyclist had a green turning arrow to proceed through the intersection.”

Many viewers have slammed the cyclist for breaking several rules, including not dismounting the bike as he approached the pedestrian crossing, rather than riding through it, as well as disobeying the red light.

Many said the clip showed the cyclist being reckless on the road.

One viewer wrote: “I have no sympathy for them, they have a responsibility to ensure they are crossing the road safely, not put ALL the responsibility on the drivers not to hit them.”

Another agreed: “The person in 4x4 prob did not see the w****r as he was concentrating on the road rules.”

“if the cyclist had obeyed the rules there would have been no accident. You're blaming the motorist for someone else breaking the rules,” a third wrote.

However one person disagreed, saying: “4x4 should have sounded the horn at the cyclist before the cyclist hit them. They could have avoided the accident then.”

One woman agreed the driver was at fault: “You drive to avoid accidents and the bike rider tried to get out of the way but the car kept on coming, so its the car's fault.”

Another said the cyclist and the 4WD driver were both to blame.

“Both at fault, driver should have looked both ways before moving out and the cyclist should not have gone across in front of the vehicles. If he had looked at the traffic lights [the cyclist] would have seen the green arrow or at least read the traffic lights in general,” he wrote.

“If the cyclist had been looking in all directions would have seen the vehicle before he hit the vehicle,” the same man continued.
