'Ghastly, horrible': Great-grandfather pinned underneath his own car for an hour
A Perth great-grandfather is recovering in hospital after he became trapped under his own car.
John Court, a Mount Pleasant property developer and philanthropist, was bruised and scraped, and had an ankle shattered after he tried to stop his car rolling down the driveway.
His wife, Helen, had parked the car with the engine still running when it began to roll.
Unable to reach the foot-brake, he jumped out and tried to stop it.
Mrs Court said it was “ghastly, horrible” seeing her husband pinned under the vehicle face down for an hour.
Firefighter Syd Davies said they had to use airbags and carjacks to get Mr Court out.
But the couple’s good karma has come back when they’ve needed it most.
Mr and Mrs Court have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to causes in Perth, including the nursing school at the University of Notre Dame.

Now it’s the community’s chance to look after him. His nurse was moved to find out the couple had helped nurses in the past.
Mr Court’s endured a tough year. He’s also battling a brain tumour, but it hasn’t affected his sense of humour.
“If you're going to go for a drive I suggest going on the road - don't drive on yourself,” he said.
