Beagle mauled to death by vicious mastiffs in park as dog walker watches in horror

WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT. A beloved beagle has been mauled to death by two mastiffs as its shocked dog walker watched.

On Wednesday, Janet Payne took three-year-old Chester and four other dogs for a walk in a Manchester park in the UK.

The 39-year-old said she was shouting for Chester to come back to her when she saw the two other dogs tearing him apart "like a rag doll," The Manchester Evening News reported.

“I clipped the other dogs to a railing and ran to Chester. He was in the middle of the field being pulled all over the place. The little boy was being torn to pieces," she said.

Ms Payne called to the owner of the mastiffs and asked why the vicious dogs were not on a lead.

"At one point the white dog looked at me and I thought I was for it, but he went back to Chester," she said.

"Then the man managed to get him off and left the other dog with me as he walked off calling for it every now and then. Eventually the blood-covered dog ran after him, he didn’t even look back."

Janet called Chester's owners, Jennifer and Gary Thornley, as well as the police, who later seized two dogs under the Dangerous Dog Act, according to the Mirror.

Mr Thornley arrived to find Chester lifeless on the grass.

The beagle was a gift to Mr Thornley from his wife, who said the dog was their best friend.

"He was so friendly, so trusting. I don’t know what we are going to do without him and I’ve never seen Gary like this," she said.

"I’ve seen the video - those dogs enjoyed it. What if this happens to a child? We need to do something."
