After being stabbed "up to five times," he managed to fight off the intruder and made it to the main administration block, where he called for help.

Paramedics treated the man for non-life threatening injuries to his abdomen and arm and he was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he will undergo surgery.

Police are now searching for the attacker who fled on foot and remains on the run.

Officers said he could have gotten on a train and is expected to be covered in blood.

The school, ranging from Prep to Year 12, remains in lockdown.
