Woman who groped, licked teen girl on flight gets eight months house arrest

A young woman has been sentenced to eight months home detention for groping a fellow female passenger on a flight.

Heidi McKinney, from Oregon in the US, was arrested in May 2016 after she verbally harrassed and licked a 19-year-old woman while intoxicated on the Alaskan Airlines flight to Portland.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to the sexual assault and was ordered by the court to abstain from alcohol on Monday, The Independent reported.

Assistant US Attorney Ravi Sinha told the court McKinney "inappropriately touched the victim's chest" while trying to engage her in small talk and "bragging" about her wealth.

The court heard the victim tried to avoid McKinney by pulling her hat over her face, but the 27-year-old climbed on top of her.

The teenager then asked flight staff if she could be seated away from McKinney.

"Eventually — and in spite of the victim's repeated pleas for Ms McKinney to stop — the abuse culminated with Ms McKinney climbing on top of the victim and telling the victim she wanted to (expletive)," Mr Sinha said.

McKinney wrote a letter of apology to the victim and admitted herself into a treatment centre.
