Man charged over murder of girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter
A man has been charged after it’s alleged he murdered his girlfriend’s daughter in Chicago.
It’s alleged John Singleton, 31, stabbed and beat Alexis Stubbs, 12, to death on Sunday night in her mother’s apartment in Sheridan Park, according to WGN9 Chicago.
Alexis and her mother were waiting outside the apartment building after calling the police because Singleton reportedly would not leave.
But Alexis went back inside to talk to a neighbour and a short time later her mother reportedly heard screams and found her daughter on the floor with stab wounds.
Police believe the 12-year-old was stabbed and beaten to death.
Singleton allegedly fled the building but NBC Chicago reports police found him in a portable bathroom around 3.30am.
Taylor, the maintenance man in Alexis’s building, told the Chicago Sun Times the 12-year-old was “very happy all the time” and added that Alexis had an “awesome mother.”

“She was a sweet little kid. Sweet girl, sweet girl,” Taylor said.
“They was like Siamese twins, you know, you didn’t see them apart.
“She really took care of her baby.”
Singleton reportedly had an extensive criminal record that includes a conviction for domestic battery.
He is due in court on Tuesday.
