'I'm very, very sorry': School bus driver's remorse after terrifying near miss with truck

A school bus driver has apologised after an extremely close near-miss between a truck and his bus carrying 15 children.

The terrifying footage shows the bus driver appearing to pull out in front of the semi-trailer on the M5 at Hammondville in Sydney's south-west.

The truck driver is forced to break suddenly and jackknife in order to avoid what could have been a terrible collision.

Drivers flagged down the 59-year-old bus driver and contacted police. The incident happened at around 7.50am on Thursday.

Speaking with 7 News, the driver said: "I'm very, very sorry about this."

The driver said his limited English stops him from fully explaining the situation, but he praised the truck driver for his quick actions.

Officers from Liverpool Local Area Command have spoken with the bus driver and commenced investigations.

The truck driver has also since been identified by police.
