Police hunt cowardly carjacker who attacked elderly woman
An elderly widow has been left bruised and shaken after a coward carjacked her in a Gold Coast driveway.
Kerry Reeves had pulled into the Labrador driveway of her friend Nerina Bickham when the attacker struck.
“It was unbelievable, actually when it was happening,” Mrs Reeves said.
“I didn’t know what to think.
”I didn’t realise I could scream so long and so loud.”
Mrs Reeves said the man approached her vehicle from the driver’s side on Thursday afternoon, and yanked the car keys out of her hand.
Ms Bickham raced outside to help when she heard the commotion as other neighbours tried to drag the robber from the car.
“Honestly the poor thing... she was trembling you know, ‘cos she couldn’t believe it,” Ms Bickham said.
The thief locked the car doors and was able to drive away in Mrs Reeves’ red Toyota Corolla, which has personalised number plates.
Those plates were given to Ms Reeves as a gift to mark the year she and her late husband Brian were married.
Police are still trying to find Mrs Reeves’ attacker and her car.
The 76-year-old said she has been so traumatised by the ordeal, she’s changed her locks at home in a bid to feel safe.
Anyone with information on the attack should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
