A driver who live-streamed himself weaving through traffic travelling at 186km/h is in a critical condition after he ended up crashing into a garbage truck.

Onasi Olio Rojas, 20, broadcasted his erratic driving on US Route 6 to Facebook Live on Thursday morning.

Police said he was seriously injured in the accident and his Honda Civic was found in pieces, CBS Boston reported.

In the video, Rojas accelerates from 93km/h to 167km/h before he was forced to slow down for traffic.

He quickly sped up again and began weaving through multiple lanes of traffic, at times using the shoulder to pass other vehicles.

His speed hit 186km before the video abruptly stops.

According to police, Rojas lost control of the vehicle, hit a dump truck and crossed through three lanes of traffic before he smashed the car into a barrier.

"How lucky we are that no one else was hurt," Captain John Allen of the Rhode Island State Police said.

"It's a grand slam of things not to do," he added.

Doctors said Rojas is in fair condition and it is believed he will be charged with driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.
