Two women rescued from sinking super yacht off the NSW coastline
Two women have been rescued from a sinking super yacht off the Port Macquarie coast this morning after it began taking on water.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority received an emergency call from the super yacht, Masteka 2, at 5am this morning before two locally-based ships were asked to sail to the aid of disabled yacht with six people on board.
The Carnival Spirit rescued the two injured female workers, but the four remaining workers reportedly elected to stay on board in an effort to repair the damaged ship.
Pumps and extra fuel were air-dropped to assist the sinking super yacht
Air drops of pumps and tools were delivered to the stricken yacht while Carnival Spirit also provided emergency supplies and extra fuel.
The luxury yacht is certainly worth saving - it sleeps 12 in five bedrooms and costs $100,000 per week to hire.
Carnival Spirit has been asked to stand by the disabled craft pending the arrival of further assistance, while a Sydney tugboat has also been acquired, but it is not expected to arrive at the scene until Thursday morning.
The cruise ships Pacific Pearl and Carnival Spirit responded to AMSA’s broadcast call for assistance.
It is the second time in just over a week that Carnival Australia ships have been involved in marine rescues at sea.
Last week, the locally based Sun Princess, which is in Sydney today, rescued five people adrift in a disabled vessel off Vanuatu.
In the latest incident, Pacific Pearl was released from the marine rescue operation by Australian marine search and rescue authorities.
