CCTV shows moment toddler rescued after five-hour police chase

Dramatic video has captured the moment a two-year-old child is carried away after a five-hour police pursuit, over which a man has now been charged.

The began near Wyong on the Central Coast yesterday as the police air wing discreetly followed a truck until it ran out of petrol at Yagoona almost 100 kilometres away.

The moment police swoop on the vehicle to arrest the man was captured on a resident's security camera.

The man was arrested and is expected to be charged and appear in court tomorrow.

An officer can be seen carrying a child to safety in the CCTV footage.

The incident began at 11am when police went to serve a number of warrants to a 40-year- old man at Wattanobi.

He drove off in a flat bed truck with a 2 year old boy in the cabin with him.

Those warrants included possession of firearms, so police played it very carefully calling in Polair to keep tabs on the truck as it made its way south from the central coast towards Sydney.

After the arrest, police alleged that throughout the day the man put himself, the child, and the public at risk.

Chief inspector Colin Lott said: "He engaged in driving on the wrong side of the road, running red lights and putting the public in danger and it was most crucial he was stopped."
