Charges filed over brutal beatdown caught on camera

WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: Police in West Memphis, Arkansas have reportedly filed charges against a woman as they investigate a viral video of a violent beating.

The distressing video reportedly captures a woman storming into a room where a young mother and her 11-month-old son are lying on a bed.

The alleged attacker can then be seen on camera lashing out at the young mother, pulling her hair, repeatedly hitting the woman and at one point jumping on top of her where she continues striking her.

Viewers and authorities were left shocked by the footage, particularly as the young boy remains sleeping on the bed throughout the alleged beating.

"It's blatant disregard for that child's life. That child could have been hurt really badly," a concerned viewer, Mary Smith, told WMC Action News 5.

"If one of those [punches], just one, had landed on that child it could have caused irreparable damage," Mary Smith said.

Captain Joe Baker from the West Memphis Police Department told WMC Action News 5, "With the child involved, it's an atrocious video."

"Great danger of injury to that child, and that's, you know, just ridiculous. No reason at all for that to happen," he said.

The police captain added the young child pictured in the video was not injured.
