Bride sues luxury Hamilton Island Resort for $270k after slip-and-fall on wedding day

A Gold Coast bride is suing Queensland’s Hamilton Island Resort for more than a quarter of a million dollars after slipping in a puddle on her wedding day and injuring herself.

The blushing bride, Tegan Maxwell slipped in rainwater at her reception and fracturing a kneecap.

The furious bride spent her wedding night on morphine instead of celebrating with her family and friends she claims.

The bride then was forced to endure wearing a cast on her less than ideal honeymoon.

The aspiring beautician planned to work from her Labrador home as a hairdresser however due to injuries sustained during the fall the 26-year-old claims she can't stand for long periods of time without being in pain.

Mrs Maxwell now wants Hamilton Island to pay for her the loss of income she has suffered since the incident.

Maxell is also seeking compensation to hire cleaners to help around the house as she claims she is now unable to clean her home without pain occurring.

Court documents claim the resort was negligent because lighting was dim, staff weren't adequately trained and proper procedures weren't in place to prevent the accident.

A wedding at the luxury hotel can cost in excess of tens of thousands of dollars.

The exclusive island is part of the Whitsundays, located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

The venue is being asked to pay back $270,000 in damages.

Hamilton Island management declined to comment to 7 News.
