Fourth-generation NSW farmer Brendan Farrell has seen first hand the devastation of the state’s worst-ever drought.

So he decided to do something about it.

The Stanbridge farmer pulled together some troops for the Burrumbuttock Hay Run to help drought-affected families out.

So far they’ve completed nine hay runs but as Mr Farrel learned more about the struggles in Queensland, where 86 percent of the state has been struggling with the dry conditions, he realised more help was needed.

It inspired him to rally more than 100 people to undertake a record-setting trip to deliver much needed supplies to Queensland.

"My plan is to let everyone know this drought is still happening," Mr Farell told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"It is just letting third, fourth-generation farmers know that there are still people who care, whether it is my organisation or other people – people are still helping.

"It is keeping the dream alive, that is all we are doing."

The hay runners will travel with 138 trailers to three stops over two days during their 1860km one-way journey.

They will deliver food for farmer’s stock and entertainment to help those dealing with tough times.

"Just to give them three or four hours off the farm so they can forget about the drought – it's important, really important."

The hay has been donated from all over with a fundraiser continuing to help cover fuel costs.

It’s estimated the trip will cost $2000 for each truck in fuel.

If all goes to plan it could also set a Guinness World Record.
