PREVIEW: 'Antman' Reg Foggerdy breaks his silence on outback ordeal

Outback survivor Reg Foggerdy has broken his silence about the terrifying six-days he spent lost in the West Australian Goldfields without food or water.

In an exclusive interview with 7 News, the 62-year-old described how he had given up all hope of ever being found towards the end.

When questioned if he thought he was going to die, Mr Foggerdy said; "At the end I did yeah."

Mr Foggerdy disappeared on October 7 while heading to the Shooter's Shack camp near Laverton on a hunting trip.

When he failed to return, family members raised the alarm and a search by police trackers finally found him 15 kilometres from where he went missing.

However Mr Foggerdy spent six long days out in the scorching heat before he was rescued.

He told 7 News reporter Rick Ardon that he thought he would have been found dead under the tree he took shelter near.

With no food or water for sustenance, Mr Foggerdy made the potentially life saving decision to eat black ants.

“The first day I ate 12,” he said.

"He was eating black ants, that's how he survived. So, fantastic survival skills by him, and fantastic skills by our trackers who found him in an extremely remote location," Goldfields Police superintendent Andy Greatwood told the West Australian newspaper after he was found last month.

"It was extremely hot, extremely remote, and most people probably wouldn't have survived."

The incredible details of Mr Foggerdy’s survival story will feature on 7 News Perth at 6pm tonight.
