Burger chain Grill'd settle with former employee
A Victorian woman has received an disclosed pay-out from burger chain Grill’d in a private settlement.
Kahlani Pyrah was due to appear in Federal Court this week over her unfair dismal claim but reached a confidential agreement with the company prior.
The 20-year-old alleged she was sacked from a store in Camberwell, Melbourne for contesting a low wage agreement and seeking to have a company WorkChoices pay deal scrapped for full award entitlements.
"I was able to set a positive example to hospitality workers that you can stand up for better wages and fair treatment and win," Ms Pyrah told Fairfax.
"I wanted to overturn Grill'd below-award wages and I succeeded ... that means thousands of Grill'd workers will get a pay rise."
A Grill'd spokesman said the company maintained allegations of workplace bullying was the reason for Ms Pyrah's dismissal.
It is understood the pay-out was substantial.
