Exclusive: Clive Palmer in trouble

An exclusive 7News ReachTEL poll will make uneasy reading for Clive Palmer as the carbon tax is set to be killed off in the senate.

Mr Palmer's support will be crucial to abolishing the tax, but voters have mixed opinions on whether this is a good idea.

Only a slim majority of voters support axing the tax but 65 percent of people what some form of price on carbon.

The results also show the Queensland politician is losing support himself.

When asked whether they thought Mr Palmer's influence in the senate and in politics generally was good or bad for Australia, 35 percent of respondents said yes, while 35 percent said no and another 30 percent were undecided.

Support for Mr Palmer in his seat of Fairfax has collapsed by a third since the last election, meaning he has a hard road ahead of him before the next federal election.
