'Scene of the accident' selfies draw widespread disgust

People taking ‘selfies’ by the site of a tragic gas explosion in New York have come under fire for their ‘poor taste.’

A blast in East Village had left two people missing and 25 injured at the weekend. But that did not stop some social media users taking photos of themselves near the rescue operation.

EventPhotosNYC posted a picture of group of young women smiling in front of emergency vehicles.

A former Democratic party employee Christina Freundlich posts a picture of her grinning widely with the caption: “Scene of the accident.”

A Univision journalist was also caught taking a snap of himself.

Commenters were quick to share their disgust.

“Everything that’s wrong with NYC summed up in one photo,” one commenter wrote beneath the EventPhotosNYC picture.

“You’re disgusting,” an Instagram commenter wrote beneath Freundlich’s picture.

But one commenter blamed humanity and its “sickening culture.”

“We all need to grow up…she is reflective of everyone. Everyone!”
