Gunshot selfie: Victim's shocking survival snap

In a clear sign of the times, an American shooting massacre victim has Snapchatted his wounds with the caption "I just got shot".

Isaac Martinez was on his way to work when he was allegedly carjacked by the man accused of the deadly Mesa shooting massacre.

"So I'm home and well! I have no complicated injuries and should heal fine," Martinez's posted to Facebook.

"I had a bullet hit me from behind and go through my shoulder and out my coller area. Any higher or lower it coulda hit a artery, or shatter my shoulder blade. It was a miracle hit."

After a citywide manhunt, Arizona police arrested Ryan Giroux who they say shot dead one person and wounded another five, including Martinez.

Police at Arizona State University said via Twitter that Mesa police had arrested the suspect in the shootings. Local television showed aerial video of police moving a handcuffed Giroux into the back of a truck.

Local television channel 12 News reported the shooter Giroux, 41, an ex-convict whose distinctive facial tattoos, including symbols used by white supremacist prison gangs, matched police descriptions.

Mesa police had not yet confirmed the arrest or the shooter's identity.

Detective Esteban Flores said the man shot two women and killed a man at a motel at 8.40am on Wednesday. He then shot a man at a nearby restaurant, and carjacked another man at the same location to steal his grey Honda Accord.

The shooter then broke into a home in another part of the city, shooting a man there, Flores said. Police found another man shot, believed to be a victim of the same shooter, outside an apartment complex in a fourth location.

Media reported entire neighbourhoods were on lockdown as police closed streets and footpaths and searched door to door for the gunman.

The motive for the shootings was unknown.
