April-lee Gillen was victim of kidnap: police

Police believe a 17-year-old girl found with critical head injuries on the side of the road managed to jump from a car after being kidnapped.

April-lee Gillen was found by residents lying unconscious at Lake Heights, near Wollongong, on April 20 in what was initially believed to have been a hit-and-run accident.

Police have now released images of of a black BMW SUV as they search for two men they believe dragged her into the vehicle on Northcliffe Drive around midnight.

April-lee Gillen posted a chilling message to Facebook just moments before the time she was injured.

"Phones on 1 per cent walking from Warrawong to Berks and some Asian guy just stopped me telling me to come home with him cause it’s safe and I need help sos," she said.

Northcliffe Drive resident Lola Smith told Fairfax Media that she heard a "slight bang" around the time Ms Gillen was hit.

"It's awful," she said. "We haven't had anything like that along here before.
