Woman tweets relief after boardroom miscarriage

A woman in the US has caused outrage by tweeting her joy at having a miscarriage in a boardroom meeting.

The New York Daily News reports Penelope Trunk had previously had two abortions and a miscarriage and clearly did not want another child.

After realising she was going to lose her baby, she decided to share her relief with her 20,000 followers on social networking site Twitter.

"I'm in a board meeting. Having a miscarriage. Thank goodness," the 42-year-old posted.

"Because there's a f*****-up 3-week hoop-jump to have an abortion in Wisconsin."

Miss Trunk, the chief executive of internet career advice firm Brazen Careerist, has infuriated members of the public by saying the tweet was a 'public service announcement'.

"I have no regrets. I actually thought that having a miscarriage at work was no big shakes."

"It seems like everyone in the whole world would prefer a miscarriage over an abortion - even the Pope. It's no different to me saying what I had for lunch."

Miss Trunk had previously booked a termination in Chicago because of a three-week waiting list in her home of Wisconsin.

London's Daily Mail reports her as saying those who accuse her of a cruel disregard are wrong.

"When I had my first miscarriage I was inconsolable. The difference was I desperately wanted that baby."

There was more than 600 comments posted on Miss Trunk's Twitter blog, with one follower accusing her of mocking "the complex, conflicting and often overwhelming feelings that pregnancy and loss can evoke."

As a result of her tweet, Miss Trunk lost about 70 of her 20,000 followers.
