1000 students in isolation after virus case at ANOTHER Sydney school

A public school in Sydney’s west will close after NSW Health confirmed a student tested positive for coronavirus.

From Wednesday August 12, all school staff and around 1000 students at Parramatta Public School will return to home learning.

NSW Health advises the school will remain non-operational for the onsite attendance of staff and students to allow time for the school to complete the contact tracing process and have the school cleaned.

All staff and students are being asked to self-isolate while contact tracing occurs.

NSW Health cautions anyone who has been unwell or develops symptoms should be tested for COVID-19 and remain in self-isolation until the results are returned.

Further advice will be provided tomorrow advising when the school will resume on-site learning.

The announcement comes a day after a series of coronavirus outbreaks were detected in NSW schools.

While confirming 14 new infections during a press conference on Monday, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant revealed five of them are linked to Tangara School for Girls in Cherrybrook, in Sydney’s northwest.

Out of the five cases, four are students and one is a household contact of a previously confirmed case. Two additional cases, a student and a teacher, tested positive on Monday morning.

In total, nine cases, including six students, are now associated with the school, forcing all students and staff of the secondary school to self-isolate for 14 days and undergo testing, regardless of symptoms.
