'Raped girl dug herself out of grave'

A 13-year-old girl has managed to dig herself out of a grave after she was allegedly raped and buried alive by two men in Pakistan.

The teenager was attacked in Toba Tek Singh, an area of Punjab, while walking to Koran lessons.

She was reportedly buried alive by the two attackers who thought she had died during the assault.

When she regained consciousness, the young girl managed to dig her way out of the muddy grave and call out for help, police say.

She attracted the attention of a passer-by and managed to survive the horrific ordeal after being treated in hospital.

Despite initially refusing to investigate the attack, following desperate pleas from the victim's father, police have now arrested two men over the rape.

They were ordered to arrest the alleged attackers by the Lahore High Court Chief Justice's Complaint Cell.

According to children's charity Sahil, the number of children raped in Pakistan over the past decade has increased by nearly 400 percent.

Last month, rights campaigners staged protest rallies across Pakistan against the rape of a five-year-old girl in the eastern city of Lahore.
