Vandals threaten to stab train driver
In a dramatic escalation of vandalism on Melbourne's rail system, a train driver has been threatened with a knife.
The alleged attack happened at Heyington Station, in Toorak, shortly after the driver stopped at around 6pm yesterday.
The emergency handle on the last carriage had been pulled, and the driver went to investigate.
He was confronted by a gang of vandals in balaclavas spray painting the train.
Seven News has obtained exclusive pictures of the attack - and you can see from the picture below that the carriage was badly damaged.
When the train driver approached them, the group apparently warned 'come any closer and you'll be stabbed'.
Police were called, but the gang ran off, and are still at large.
The incident caused major delays on the Glen Waverley line last night.
The driver is now on stress leave, and the incident has unsettled the local community.
One shocked commuter told 7News: "I feel sorry for the driver, it's pretty terrible to be assaulted like that."
"I think it's dreadful," another commuter added. "I've lived in the area for 30 years and I've never heard of anything like this."
Metro has condemned the attack saying it was well organised, and is a frightening step up in the graffiti war.
Police are investigating the incident.
