Celebrate WA and your cause

Not-for-profit organisation Celebrate WA is calling for nominations for the 2015 West Australian of the Year Awards.

Winners will be chosen in seven categories - Aboriginal, Arts and Culture, Business, Community, Professions, Sport and Youth - with the overall winner selected from individual category winners.

The winner of last year's West Australian of the Year, Murdoch University chancellor, businessman and philanthropist David Flanagan, said it was humbling to join the ranks of such respected alumni.

"I encourage everyone to take a moment to nominate someone who deserves to be recognised," he said.

Mr Flanagan said winning gave him a great opportunity to be a spokesman for the place he was proud to call home.

Noongar woman Krista McMeeken, recently appointed a Celebrate WA board member and a State finalist for the 2012 Young Australian of the Year, said the awards were a fantastic networking opportunity and "platform to promote a cause that you're passionate about".
