Kimbra to release more Golden Echo songs

Kimbra fans won't have to wait long for more reverberations from The Golden Echo.

The Kiwi singer/songwriter is planning to release songs that didn't make it onto her second album in various formats over the next year.

"In the world we live in now there are so many ways you can share music, whether it's writing a song for a film that gets debuted or just putting it on the internet or doing a limited edition vinyl," she told AAP.

"I want to kind of exercise those different avenues because there is so much material that I haven't shared yet.

"To me they (the unreleased songs) are still part of the Golden Echo, you know they were written in the same era, the same season as that album, so they feel a part of the world which is why I would like to release them before I start another body of work."

Kimbra, an asthma suffer, performed an acoustic version of her latest single Miracle in Melbourne on Tuesday at the launch of the Asthma: Take Control campaign.

She said Miracle is close her heart because it's about the transformative power of love.

"It's kind of about the idea of the ordinary or the common place things around you being transformed into something extraordinary and how love can change things in your life and make it seem brand new," she said.

"I like the idea of combining reality with a sense of the surreal in my music.

"From a young age I was really fascinated with asking a lot of questions and also using music as a way to express and explore the mind and the heart."

Kimbra said she likes music from movies and hip hop beats and she was listening to a lot of Brazilian music while making The Golden Echo.

The 24-year-old was also inspired by the work of her collaborators like bass master Thundercat and rockers Muse.

She especially enjoyed working with former Silverchair front man Daniel Johns, who has been a huge influence since she was about 14-years-old.

"That is probably the most memorable collaboration of all of them on the record just because we hit it off from the word go and felt such a natural creative energy together," Kimbra said.

"I loved Silverchair because they were kind of this angsty teen rock band but at the same time they were so wildly inventive and imaginative."

Kimbra returns to Los Angeles later this week and will do a small residency and an improvisation night with fellow musicians.

She begins her American tour in San Francisco in October before returning to Australia in November for shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
