Robin could be played by a woman

An extra on Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice could be facing a whopping $5 million fine after blabbing to media that Robin would be played by a woman.

Not only that, but that The Hunger Games actress Jena Malone has reportedly taken on the role.

Local Michigan television station WILX 10 made the announcement, after getting the tip-off from the anonymous extra on the superhero flick, which stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

With no official word from studio Warner Bros, it's just a rumour at this stage, however it would at least explain Malone's hair colour.

The 29-year-old actress has been spotted with a fiery bob, and on October 3, Instagrammed a pic of her red 'do' with the caption, "Drastic times call for drastic measures."

If true, it's perhaps not too much of a surprise to comic book fans. Director/writer Zack Snyder is said to have been heavily influenced by Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, where Robin is a woman named Carrie Kelley.

US websites are reporting that the extra who leaked the news might have to cough up a $5 million fine, after signing a non-disclosure agreement to Warner Bros.

If Malone really is Robin, it will also be the latest casting to buck a stereotypically male role, with the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot featuring an all-female cast.
